Dr. Keskin Blueberry Jam combines the rich fruity taste and distinctive aroma of blueberries in a delicious sweet treat for the whole family. Made from carefully selected fruit and sweetened with fructose, it is ideal for breakfast, pancakes, yogurt, desserts and homemade pastries. Every spoonful adds a fruity touch to your favourite recipes and turns an everyday meal into a special treat.
The jam is pasteurised and made from 40 g of blueberries per 100 g of finished product. It comes in a 290 g glass jar - a practical choice for your kitchen and a delicious way to add variety to your daily menu.
Blueberries belong to the genus Vaccinium, which includes various species of wild and cultivated berries. The European bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is characteristic of the forested and mountainous regions of Europe, while some of the familiar large-fruited cultivated blueberries originate from North America.
Wild blueberries have been part of European food culture for centuries. The berries were eaten fresh during the season, while surplus fruit was dried or processed so it could also be enjoyed during the colder months. In addition to being valued as food, blueberries were appreciated for their rich, dark colour, which was traditionally used for colouring.
In traditional Bulgarian home cooking, making jams, fruit preserves and syrups is a long-established way of preserving seasonal fruit. During summer and early autumn, fruit is carefully selected and processed so that its flavour can be enjoyed at the table throughout the winter.
Blueberries are particularly familiar in the mountainous regions of Bulgaria, where wild berries are gathered during the season. Prepared as jam or syrup, they are delicious served with mekitsi, pancakes, homemade fried dough pastries and slices of bread, as well as added to a variety of desserts. In this way, fruit preserves connect the seasonal gifts of nature with the tradition of homemade food.
Blueberries are distinguished by their characteristic blue-violet to dark blue colour, which is due to natural plant pigments called anthocyanins. These belong to the group of polyphenols - diverse compounds found in many fruits and vegetables.
Depending on the species and growing conditions, fresh blueberries also contain water, carbohydrates, dietary fibre and various vitamins and minerals. Their composition makes them an interesting subject of scientific research into polyphenols and how they interact with the body. However, findings from studies of fresh berries cannot automatically be applied to jams, as processing and added ingredients change the nutritional composition of the finished product.
