Messima (Phellinus linteus) is a type of wood fungus that is a member of the Hymenochaetaceae family.

In Korea, messima has been used to make tea for thousands of years. For hundreds of years in Asian countries, the mushroom has been used to treat various disease states such as diarrhea, gastroenteric dysfunction, bleeding of various origins, and tumor diseases.

The mushroom has a proven effect in the treatment of hemorrhages. Even in the past, it was used for heavy uterine bleeding and for deep puncture wounds. Nowadays, the possibilities of messima for use in hemophilia are being investigated.

Phellinus linteus fruit body or mycelial extracts stimulate hormonal and cell-mediated immune function, suppress inflammatory responses caused by various stimuli, and suppress tumor growth.
