If you take a elderberry syrup in November, you will not get sick all over the winter, the experienced bulgarian herbalists say.

Surely, this immune stimulating action of the elderberry fruit (Sambucus nigra) really has great potential. Interesting in the traditional production of elder syrup that it boils long. It is known that dark-colored anthocyanins (which the fruits owe their characteristic color) are extracted by a long heat treatment, in which the active substances of the eagle become digestible for our digestion. In the past, even the recipe included adding rum, as alcohol makes the mucous membranes more permeable, and this makes it easier to take the precious substances to the ears, explains Karin Bouchard, a member of the European Society for Medical Art.

Recipe 1: Hot elderberry drink

200-300 g of elderberry fruit, 2 liters of water, 800 g of sugar, 250 ml rum, vanilla, cinnamon and cloves.

The fruits are cooked for 60 minutes in the water and then strained. Sugar and spices are added to them and the resulting mixture is boiled for another 30 minutes. Finally, rum is added and the resulting grape is filled into dark bottles.

Splashing with hot water makes the drink ready to drink. It can also be used to sweeten herbal or fruity tea.

Recipe 2: Elderberry, Vinegar and Honey

Prepare blobs of elder, vinegar and honey. In quality fruit or wine vinegar it is good to soak (like many other healing herbs) and elderberry flowers. From the resulting mixture, take 2 tablespoons, mix them with 1 teaspoon of honey and add 125 ml of water. The resulting solution becomes an ointment that is suitable for various skin problems. It is appropriate to rub on affected areas.
