Chamomile is an annual herbaceous plant. The stem is erect, up to 50 cm high. The whole plant and especially the flower baskets have a characteristic pleasant smell and a sharp, bitter taste. It blooms from May to August.

Where does chamomile grow?

It grows in meadows, meadows, pastures, around settlements throughout Bulgaria.

Which part of chamomile is used?

Flower baskets are used for medicinal purposes. Picking is done manually or with special combs. The flowers are detached with a stalk no longer than 3 cm.

Healing effect:

Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, analgesic, antispasmodic, wound healing, sedative, diaphoretic and other actions. The stimulating effect of the essential oil on the central nervous system has been proven.

Health benefits and application:

- for colds of the upper respiratory tract as a sedative;
- in inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth, gums, throat, toothache;
- in gastritis, enteritis, colitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers;

- external rinsing for painful and difficult to heal wounds;
- inhalation for influenza, pharyngitis, laryngitis;
- with painful menstruation, sleep disturbance.

In Bulgarian folk medicine it is used for inflammation of the kidneys and bladder, insomnia, headache, jaundice, gas, gout, rheumatism, epilepsy, hemorrhoids, hysteria, difficulty urinating and urinating blood, fungus in the mouth, shortness of breath, jaundice, painful menstruation.

As an anti-inflammatory and analgesic chamomile is used internally and externally in a large number of diseases: inflammation of the digestive system - the mucous membranes of the mouth, gums, throat, toothache, gastritis, enteritis, colitis (with pain and colic), stomach ulcers and duodenum.

Externally it is applied in the form of rinses for inflammation of the conjunctiva, hemorrhoids, painful and difficult to heal wounds, wet eczema, sweating feet and more. In the form of inhalations it is prescribed for flu, pharyngitis, laryngitis and others.

As a sedative, chamomile is used for painful menstruation and sleep disorders.

Chamomile is used in cosmetics to refresh the skin and maintain the color of blonde hair.

External application: It is used for gargling with bad breath in the mouth, for applying compresses for boils and wounds, for rinsing for vaginal problems, for baths for hemorrhoids, skin rashes, sweating of the feet, for insomnia.

Internal use: 1 tbsp. of the herb is poured 200 ml of boiling water. Soak for 30 minutes and drink at once (maybe sweetened with honey). The infusion is made 3 times a day and drunk 15 minutes before meals.
