Lavender is a highly branched, 30-80 cm tall semi-shrub with numerous ascending or erect stems. Flowering twigs are quadrangular. The leaves are opposite. The flowers are blue-violet, gathered 6-10 in false vertebrae, forming spike-like inflorescences. It blooms July-August.
In Bulgaria it is grown mainly in the districts of Karlovo and Kazanlak, as well as in other regions of the country with an altitude of up to 1000 m.
The flowers and the oil obtained from it are used.
Healing effect:
It has a calming effect on the nervous system, eliminates spasms of smooth muscles, and has a soothing and disinfecting effect.
Application:
- in nervous excitement, neurasthenia, insomnia, cardiac neurosis, migraine headache
- in gastrointestinal colic, gas in the intestines
- externally in the form of baths: soothing
- essential oil applied to the skin: soothes rheumatic and neuralgic pain
- flowers are a good way to protect clothes from moths
In Bulgarian folk medicine, lavender is used for schizophrenia, paralysis, gas, gastritis, insomnia, dizziness, rheumatism, palpitations, headaches, stomach aches.
External application: For making compresses for stomach aches, paralysis, rheumatism, bruises, stings and insect bites, for mouth wash for toothache, gargling for sore throat.
The oil dissolved in alcohol is used for rubbing in colds, neuralgia, rheumatism.
Internal application: 1 tablespoon of the herb is added to 400 ml of very hot water. Soak for 1 hour. Take 100 ml 4 times a day 15 minutes before meals.
