Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is an herb that has been known and used since ancient times since the time of the Thracians. The plant is harvested during flowering and used throughout the year.
Contains up to 1.2% essential oil, which is the main active ingredient. It stimulates peristalsis and intestinal tone, enhances the secretion of the digestive and bronchial glands. The anthelmintic action of the herb has also been established.
Oregano has a pronounced soporific effect and suppresses sexual arousal. It has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant and sedative effects.
It is also prescribed for inflammation and pain in the stomach and abdomen, liver and bile diseases, constipation, indigestion. And also in diabetes, acute and chronic bronchitis, tracheitis, influenza, whooping cough, ear pain, whooping cough, even toothache.
In Bulgarian folk medicine it is also used for painful menstruation, eczema, especially in young children in the form of baths. And also for rashes and wounds.
For baths it is recommended to pour 20-40 g of dry oregano with 1 liter of boiling water. After cooling, the infusion is poured into the bath water.
And internally it is prepared as follows: 3-4 tablespoons of dried oregano is poured with 650 ml of hot water and soaked until blue. Strain and drink 200 ml 2-3 times a day.
Another recipe advises: 3-4 teaspoons of dried oregano is poured with 1 teaspoon of hot water. After cooling, strain and drink the amount on the same day.
It can also be used as a tincture: mix 20% herb and 70 vol. alcohol. Take 20 drops in 50 ml of water 3 times a day.
Oregano oil is also successfully used: take 2-5 drops daily.
