Cornstarch is a universal ingredient that is a valuable helper in any kitchen. With corn starch we can thicken a number of foods, incl. soups and sauces. Cornstarch helps to form a crispy crust when used to cover fried foods.
What is starch?
Starch is the most common carbohydrate in the human diet, accounting for more than 50% of daily carbohydrate intake. Starch makes up 70% to 80% of all calories consumed by people around the world. Starch is extracted especially from cassava and potatoes, as well as cereals such as corn, rice, wheat, barley and oats.
Cornstarch, sometimes called cornmeal, is a carbohydrate extracted from corn endosperm. Because cornstarch is made from corn and contains only carbohydrates, it is gluten-free. Cornstarch is an excellent alternative to gluten-free thickeners in recipes.
Purpose:
Cornstarch has a neutral taste and smell, white color.
It is suitable for the menu of vegans and vegetarians, as well as for people who for some reason are on a diet that does not allow the consumption of ordinary wheat flour.
Added to stew, soup or sauce, it makes the dish thicker.
Cornstarch can also be used for fried dishes, making them more crunchy. As a breading, cornstarch will provide a perfect golden and crispy crust on fried chicken wings, for example.

Instructions for use:
Cornstarch can replace some of the flour in various pastries. Add up to 30% of the total mass of flour in gluten-free combinations.
It can be used as a thickener in soups, sauces, side dishes, glazes, pies and more.
Cornstarch is hygroscopic. Once opened, store in a dry and dark place in the original package or in an airtight container.
