Bilberry
Vaccinium myrtillus L.
Other names: European blueberry, Blaeberry, Wimberry, Whortleberry
A semi-shrub, 10-40 cm tall, with strongly branched thin ridged stems. The leaves are short-stalked, alternate, light green, ovate, toothed. The flowers are arranged singly. The fruit is a multi-seeded, spherical, bluish-black strawberry, with a pleasantly sour-sweet and slightly astringent taste. Blooms from May to July.
It is found in the high mountains above 1000 m above sea level, in coniferous and broad-leaved forests and grasslands together with cranberry and blueberry.
The leaves (in July-August) and fruits (in July-September) are collected for medicinal purposes.
Bilberry - dried leaves
Application: as an aid in gastrointestinal disorders, chronic diarrhea, hemorrhoids, diabetes, improvement of vision, and inflammatory processes in the oral cavity.
Method of preparation: Add 1 tablespoon of the herb to 200 ml of hot water and let it soak for 2 hours. Strain and take 100 g 3 times a day before meals.
