Linden is a tall and branched tree with a dense crown. The leaves are consecutive with an irregular heart shape. The flowers are gathered in partial shade. The inflorescences of the small-leaved and medium-leaved linden are small, usually 5-7, even up to 15 flowers, and of the large-leaved linden 2-5 large flowers. The small-leaved linden blooms no later than the middle of summer - after the large-leaved and silver-leaved linden.
Linden has a strong pathogenic and diuretic effect, antispasmodic, tonic, antimicrobial. The healing effect of the herb is due to the essential oil, tannins and mucous substances contained in it.
It is used as an expectorant in diseases of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, pneumonia, catarrh, sore throat), in fever, rheumatic pain, neuritis.
In Bulgarian folk medicine, the flower of linden is used for skin rashes, measles, stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, epilepsy, hysteria, hoarseness, for sweating with colds.
