The roots and rhizomes contain alkaloids of the steroid type (amino alcohols, ester alkaloids glucoalkaloids): alkamines - veratramine, pervin, germin, protovetrin; resin, starch, sugar.
The herb is highly toxic! Appointed only on prescription. It is used in various combinations with other alkaloids as an antihypertensive agent. Alkaloids have been used to stimulate hair growth in joint rheumatism and scabies.

Method of preparation: To 1 liter of water add 30 g of the herb and 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Boil for 30 minutes. Strain. Used for scalp friction 2-3 times a week.
