A number of scientific studies support the role of milk thistle as an antioxidant, which reduces the formation of free radicals and affects cell growth and apoptosis (cell death). Milk Thistle oil reduces inflammation and maintain liver tolerance to oxidative stress, including damage caused by toxins such as carbon tetrachloride.
Many systematic studies examined the efficacy of milk thistle to treat liver diseases, in particular, alcoholic liver disease and hepatitis B and C. Carrots
Carrots (Daucus) are a genus of angiosperms in the Apiaceae family. The oldest carrot fossil is 1.3 million years old and was found on the island of Madeira (Atlantic Ocean).
A medium-sized carrot provides an impressive 210% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A. This vitamin plays an important role in maintaining a healthy immune system, vision, reproductive ability, cellular function and skin elasticity.
Carrots are a great source of provitamin A, a precursor to vitamin A in the form of carotenoids. The main provitamin A carotenoid is beta-carotene, although alpha-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin also play an important role. Our body converts these elements into vitamin A, which is then processed into retinoic acid (the active form of the vitamin), through which important biological functions are performed.
Beta-Carotene
Carrots contain various antioxidants, each of which has its own unique protective function. Beta-carotene is the most common antioxidant, especially in orange carrots.
In addition to serving as a source of provitamin A, beta-carotene also acts as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are compounds that neutralize unstable molecules called free radicals. When free radicals become too much in the body, they cause an imbalance leading to cellular and tissue damage known as oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress has some contribution to the development of some chronic diseases. Antioxidants such as beta-carotene help reduce or prevent oxidative stress in the body.
