Lentils are a type of annual plant from the Legume family. Its homeland is Central Asia, and its botanical name is Lens esculent. It is one of the oldest cultivated plants. Archaeological data show that it was on our menu around 13,000 years ago. Lentils were found in the tombs of the ancient Egyptians in 2400 BC. In the past, when meat and fish were in limited quantities, they were a source of valuable proteins. Grown for its seeds, which are used for food.
Brown lentils are the most common type of lentil. When cooked, brown lentils retain their shape unless overcooked (then the grains become mushy). Lentils contain many useful substances, including folic acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamins PP and B. Suitable for adding to the menu of vegetarians and athletes, due to the high protein content.
