Flaxseed is recommended as a food supplement and helps regulate body fat, and also lowers cholesterol levels to healthy levels. Flaxseed helps the stomach and intestine work and the removal of ballast substances. In irritated intestines, it is also taken during constipation, inflammation of the lining of the stomach, and also in inflammation of the skin.
In folk medicine flaxseed is used in coughing as an expectorant and anti-coughing agent. It is also used as a laxative in constipation, especially in chronic colitis.
It contains about 20% protein, 30% carbohydrates and over 40% fat. Rich in B vitamins and minerals. The majority of the carbohydrate component of flaxseed is food fiber (including lignans), which is due to its laxative effect. One of the best ways to prevent cardiovascular disease is maintaining a diet that is low in saturated and trans fat and rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
Omega-3 contained in flaxseed helps in these cases with anti-inflammatory action, normalization of the pulse, prevention of hardening of the arteries and blood clots, thus reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with diabetes and heart disease. According to most sources, omega-3 helps to lower cholesterol levels.
Flaxseed is also beneficial for water retention and also for weight loss.
As a general recommendation, linseed is desirable to use up to 1-2 teaspoons per day, pre-soaked raw. It can be ground and added to foods without dairy, as the latter bind insoluble a number of ingredients, counsel nutritionists.
