The advice comes from Vladimir Vazharov, author of the book - handbook "Medicinal mushrooms in Bulgaria", in which for the first time in Bulgaria more than 50 types of mushrooms with a wide range of medicinal effects are described.
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus)
One of the most cherished medicinal mushrooms of the northern peoples. It became especially popular after the publication of Alexander Solzhenitsyn's book "Cancer Corps". Russian scientists are doing research on the fungus, and they are preparing a product called befungin. Its analogues are also made in Finland, befungin is offered with some other additives.
In Bulgaria, it is found in natural habitats, among birches, at 1000 m above sea level. Interestingly, the fungus does not grow where people have planted birch forests and trees.
It is good to take chaga when the patient is undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy to reduce the negative effects.
Tea is made from the soft, back part of the mushroom. One feels very good when drinking chaga tea. They say it "lights up" before their eyes.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)
According to Chinese sources, reishi is in first place in terms of medicinal properties, surpassing even an extraordinary plant like ginseng. Its uniqueness is that, unlike all other natural products that are stimulants, it is the only one that is a regulator. E.g. in case of high blood sugar, it regulates it to normal values, in case of low blood pressure, it makes it normal, etc.
In Bulgaria, it is found throughout the country, in oak forests.
It is one of the most studied mushrooms, yet very little is known about it because it has a very complex composition: it has 400 polysaccharides e.g.
The most valuable of mushrooms is the fruiting body, then the mycelium, followed by the spores.
With reishi, the spores can also be offered as a food supplement.
The mushroom is combined with other mushrooms, sometimes with herbs.
