Juniper
Juniperus Communis L.
The juniper is an evergreen dioecious shrub or small tree, reaching up to 8 m in height. Its leaves are 1-1.5 cm long, needle-shaped, spiny, and spreading. The fleshy cones are spherical, bluish-black in color. It flowers in May-June, and the seeds ripen in the autumn of the following year. The plant grows on dry, rocky slopes, mainly in mountainous areas up to 1700 m above sea level.
The plant has diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and sedative properties.
In Bulgarian folk medicine, common juniper has been used for chronic inflammations of the kidneys and urinary bladder, joint pain, certain liver and skin diseases, and more.

Application: As an adjunct in cases of gastrointestinal disturbances, kidney sediments, rheumatism, gout, hemorrhoids, and others.
Preparation method: Steep 1 tablespoon of the herb in 500 ml of hot water for 1 hour. Strain and drink the infusion in 3 equal portions throughout the day before meals.
Important: Not to be taken in cases of nephritis and pyelitis! Use only as prescribed and under medical supervision!
