Mustard seed has been used since ancient times as a preservative and medicinal, and also as a spice. There are 3 types of mustard: black, white and brown. Brown mustard is also called Sarepski.

Black mustard
Sinapis nigra L.
It is an upright plant, with large stalked leaves. They are covered with hairs or bristles at the base, but on the stem smoother. It can reach up to 80–90 cm (31–35 in) tall or even up to 2.4 m (8 ft) in moist fertile soil. The flowers have four yellow petals, which are twice as long as the sepals. Each stem has around four flowers at the top, forming a ring around the stem. Later, the plant forms long seed pods, that contain four rounded seeds.

Application: as an aid in colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, rheumatism, biliary disorders, etc.
Method of preparation: mix 1 coffee-spoon crushed mustard seeds with 100g honey. Use 1 coffee spoon 3 times daily after meals.

Mustard seeds powder is widely used in folk medicine and is an excellent remedy for joint pain, cough, cold and more.
