Ononis spinosa L.

Perennial herbaceous spiny plants, producing a dark brown rhizome, passing into a long-lived, often twisted root. The stem is up to 70 cm high, with a large number of spines. The lower and middle leaves are triple, and the upper ones are simple, provided with folds. Colors are single or double and form dense clonal inflorescences. The fruit is a bean with 2-4 seeds. Blooms in June-July.

It grows all over Bulgaria on the dry, grassy and sandy places, along the banks of the rivers, up to 1500 m above sea level.

The roots harvested in autumn after ripening of the fruit are used.

Application: as an aid in fluid retention, renal inflammation, metabolic disorders, urological disorders, varicose veins.

Method of preparation: Pour 1 tablespoon of the herb with 500 ml of hot water and leave for 30 minutes. Strain and drink in 3 equal parts during the day after meals.

Take 10 days, followed by a break of 14 days.
