Burdock
Arctium lappa L.
Other names: Lappa, thorny burr, gobō, happy major
Description:
Two-year herbaceous plant with spindle-shaped fleshy root, grayish brown on the outside and white and juicy on the inside. Stem up to 1.5 m high, strongly branched. The fruits are slightly flattened. It blooms in summer.
Distribution:
It grows in moist, rough and turbulent places, forests and shrubs in Bulgaria.
Usable part:
The root is used for healing purposes.
In Bulgarian folk medicine, burdock roots are recommended for malaria, gastric ulcer, gastritis, and stomach gas.
Burdock - dried root
Application: as an aid in renal-urological and liver disorders, hemorrhoids, gastrointestinal abscesses, bronchitis, etc.
Method of preparation: Pour 2 tablespoons of the herb into 500 ml of water and boil for 3 minutes. Strain and drink in 3 equal portions during the day before meals.
