Shrub up to 2 m tall, or a small tree up to 4 m. The leaves are consecutive, 3-8 cm long, ovate with long stalks. The flowers are greenish, gathered in a panicle inflorescence. The fruit is dry, monoecious. It blooms in May-June.

Bulgarian folk medicine recommends Sumac for:
- purulent skin rashes, wounds, boils, sweating of the feet
- hair loss, bleeding, swollen and purulent gums
- Hemorrhoids, joint swelling
- diarrhea, dysentery,
- for gurgling in bleeding gums, colitis.
Sumac is used for rinsing in inflammation of the gums and mouth, rinsing in vaginal inflammation, compresses in hemorrhoids, dermatitis and more. The herb has tonic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and hemostatic effects.
Ingredients:
Dried, whole Smoketree leaves (Cotinus coggygria).
Method of preparation:
It is used externally for rinsing the mouth, baths and compresses. Can be used for gargling.
1 tablespoon of the herb is boiled in 500 ml of water for 5 minutes. After cooling, strain.
For bath: 50 g of the herb are boiled in 2 liters of water for 20 minutes. Leave for 1 hour, strain and add to the bath.
